Certified Steel Plates Repair for Container Vessels in Vietnam Ports

Recent Project: Steel Plate Renewal on Container Ship ZIM PEARL (June 7, 2025 – Hai Phong)

One of our recent technical operations involved steel renewal and stiffener frame replacement inside the F.W.T and void space of the container ship ZIM PEARL, carried out at Hai Phong Port, Vietnam.

1.  Steel Plate Cropping and Renewal at Tank Bulkhead

Our certified team was mobilized onboard to replace a corroded area in the bulkhead between Fresh Water Tank (Port Side) and No.2 Void Space. The key job scope included:

• Supplying qualified welders, tools, and AH36 grade steel plate
• Cropping and removing wasted steel area (as per Class requirement)
• Inserting a new steel plate with dimension: 610mm x 460mm x 11.0mm, supplied by the ship
• Welding with ceramic backing to ensure a high-quality butt joint
• Conducting UT (Ultrasonic Testing) and Vacuum Testing to check weld integrity
• Cleaning, priming, and painting the repaired area (using ship's supplied paint)

This operation restored full strength to the tank structure and met classification society acceptance.

2.  Frame and Bracket Reinforcement Installation Inside F.W.T

In addition to the plate renewal, structural reinforcement was carried out at frames FR37, FR38, FR39, FR41, FR42, FR43. The scope included:

• Removal of wasted steel areas inside the F.W.T internal tank
• Insertion of six (6) new reinforcement brackets, type 11383013, made of AH32 steel, matching vessel's design drawings
• Installation of six (6) new horizontal stiffeners with dimensions 600x60x10 mm, steel grade A
• Welding all joints in accordance with approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification)
• Optional PT (Penetrant Testing) for bracket welds (if requested by class)

This reinforcement ensured long-term tank stability and prevented deformation under pressure.
