Project Overview

Bacviet Shiprepair has recently completed the replacement of the S-Band radar magnetron on board the MV MARIANNE STOEGER, a bulk carrier sailing under the flag of Liberia.
The work was performed while the vessel was safely anchored at Cam Pha anchorage, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, during the vessel’s loading operation.

Cam Pha Anchorage and Bacviet Capability

Cam Pha anchorage is located in Quang Ninh Province, in proximity to Hon Gai and Cai Lan ports.

Scope of Work – S-Band Radar Magnetron Replacement

The vessel’s navigation equipment had reported unstable radar signal output and reduced transmission performance, which affected long-range detection.
Following inspection, the S-Band radar magnetron was determined to have reached its service life limit and required replacement.

2. New JRC S-Band magnetron unit prepared for installation during radar service by Bacviet Shiprepair

Main Scope:

Recover and recall the used magnetron unit as required by the equipment manufacturer, in line with their return policy and environmental standards.
Perform full operational testing after installation, including transmitter power, tuning accuracy, and display clarity at various ranges.
Prepare service report and calibration record for submission to the vessel’s management company.

Execution and Technical Details

The replacement was carried out by Bacviet’s certified marine electronic engineers in accordance with the manufacturer’s technical manual.
The process included the following stages:

Isolation of the radar power supply and grounding of the high-voltage circuit.
Removal of the worn magnetron assembly and cleaning of the waveguide connection surfaces.
Installation of the new M1555 magnetron with proper alignment and thermal contact inspection.
Adjustment of the radar’s tuning and gain to achieve stable transmission and optimal performance.
Verification of radar image stability under operational conditions with bridge officers present.

The work was completed within one working day, ensuring the radar system was restored to full operational condition before the vessel’s departure.
